Our Farm

Our Family, Our home

Aloha and welcome to a gallery of photos taken of our family farm and home.

“Our farm is located on the North Shore of Kauai, Hawaii along the edge of Kalihiwai Valley. We started collecting and growing tropicals over 20 years ago. We soon found that our location near Kalihiwai was an ideal spot for their propagation. Our simple project of collecting different varieties here and there soon took on a life of its own.”

From Our Farm to Your Home

Here’s just a few of the varieties grown on our farm

We currently grow

65 varieties of Heliconia, Ginger, Costus, Calathea, in addition to many different types of foliage. We take great pride in raising these exotics from little rhizomes (roots) to the vibrant splashes of color that the blooms provide. Kalihiwai, Kauai is especially suited for their propagation, with our ample rainfall and steady temperatures it is often exciting to see a newly introduced variety grow and flower for the first time.

Quite a few of the species are actually rare in their own country of origin. And some of our flowers are Native to Hawaii. Adapting well to tropical climates, new species are constantly being discovered. Because of the relative newness of some of these flowers, you will find a wide degree of variation in their names from one location to another. We hope that you will enjoy them as much as we do.

Aloha and Mahalo from our Ohana(family)

“We take great pride in raising these exotics.”

Heliconia

Heliconia, derived from the Greek word Ἑλικώνιος, is a genus of flowering plants in the family Heliconiaceae. Most of the ca 194 known species are native to the tropical Americas, but a few are indigenous to certain islands of the western Pacific and Maluku.

Curcuma

Curcuma is a stately and elegant summer-blooming flower that’s a lot easier to grow than it looks! This heat-loving, long-blooming tropical plant produces gorgeous spires of pink, purple, or white flowers all summer long.

Ginger

Gingers are one of the most beautiful and colorful flowers in the world of flowers.  Gingers, are multifaceted and enjoy a special position in the botanical kingdom with their elegance color, and amazing symmetry.
